Compress a video to an exact size — 10 MB, 20 MB, 25 MB or any limit
Most video compression is really an upload-limit problem: a form says 10 MB, an email bounces at 25, a chat app refuses the file. Target size mode starts from the number instead of the settings — type the megabytes you need and the planner works out the resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate that fit it, shows you the predicted result before anything uploads, and then uses a two-pass encode to land just under your budget.
It is honest about physics, too. A one-hour video cannot become 5 MB and still be watchable, so when a target is smaller than the file can go the tool says so up front, tells you the smallest good-quality size, and still delivers the closest possible file rather than failing. For worked examples, see the guides to compressing a video to 10 MB, to 20 MB and under 25 MB.
Made for WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram or email
Every platform has its own rules, and the presets encode them so you do not have to look them up: WhatsApp re-compresses anything over its 16 MB video-message limit, Discord’s free tier stops at 20 MB, and a “25 MB” email attachment cap really means about 20 MB once encoding overhead is counted. Each preset targets safely inside its platform’s limit at the best quality that fits.
For uploads rather than messages — Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X — the presets match what the platform accepts cleanly, so your video is not degraded a second time by the platform’s own re-encode. The step-by-step guides cover the details: WhatsApp, Discord, email and Instagram Reels, Stories and posts.
MP4, MOV, MKV — and the H.264 vs H.265 choice
MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WEBM and WMV all upload directly — including MOV and HEVC footage straight off an iPhone, which is the file most often too big to send. Output is MP4 by default because it plays everywhere: on the phone of whoever you send it to, in every browser, on Windows and Android where a MOV often will not open.
The codec inside that MP4 is the real size lever. H.264 plays on effectively every device made this decade; H.265 packs the same visual quality into roughly 25–40% fewer megabytes but needs newer hardware to play. In Target size mode the planner chooses automatically — H.264 while the budget allows it, H.265 when the target is tight — and you can override it in the advanced options or use the dedicated H.265 compressor. The H.264 vs H.265 guide explains when each wins.
Keep the quality, lose the megabytes
Cameras and phones deliberately record with far more bitrate than playback needs, which is why a video can shrink by 70–90% with no difference you would notice on a phone or laptop screen. The Balanced mode targets exactly that point; the tool analyzes your file first and shows the predicted size, saving and quality level for every mode before you commit to anything.
The single biggest lever is resolution: 4K footage compressed to 1080p keeps looking sharp on almost any screen it will ever be watched on, at a fraction of the size — there is a dedicated 4K video compressor for exactly this, and a large-file workflow for files up to 2 GB. If you want to understand what compression actually does to your picture, the guide to compressing video without visible quality loss shows real comparisons.
Three steps, no account
Choose your video
Drag and drop a file, or pick one from your device. Uploads are resumable if your connection drops.
Pick a mode
Take the balanced default, or choose a platform preset such as WhatsApp, Instagram or YouTube.

Frequently asked questions
Is this video compressor really free?
Yes — compressing videos is free, with no watermarks and no signup. Files up to 2 GB are supported.
Will compression ruin my video quality?
The balanced mode targets the point where file size drops sharply but visible quality barely changes — typically 70–90% smaller with no difference you would notice on a phone or laptop screen.
What happens to my video after I compress it?
Your video is uploaded over an encrypted connection, compressed on our servers, and permanently deleted within 24 hours. Nobody looks at it and it is never shared.
What's the best setting for WhatsApp?
Use the WhatsApp preset — it targets 720p H.264 within WhatsApp’s 16 MB video limit, so the file sends without being re-compressed again.
How do I get a video under Discord’s upload limit?
Pick the Discord preset — it keeps the file under the 20 MB free-tier cap. If you want headroom for several clips, use Target size mode and type 10 MB; the tool predicts the result before you upload.
Can I compress MOV videos from an iPhone?
Yes. MOV and HEVC footage from an iPhone uploads directly, and the output is an MP4 that plays everywhere — including on Windows and Android, where the original often will not.
