Cookie Preferences

Effective September 16, 2026

The short version

Two cookies are ours and keep the site working. The rest come from the advertising and analytics providers that pay for the site — Google AdSense, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity — and those include advertising cookies. Every one of them is listed below, and your browser can block or delete any of them.

Our own cookies

  • mf_sid — essential. An httpOnly signed session cookie that keeps your anonymous session and usage quotas working while you use the tools. It holds no personal data and the site cannot function without it.
  • mf_locale — preference. Remembers the language you picked (or the one first detected for you) so the site doesn’t ask again.

Your light/dark theme choice is not a cookie — it lives in your browser’s local storage. Clearing it simply resets the theme to match your device.

Advertising and analytics cookies

These are set by third parties when you load a page, and they are how the site is paid for and measured. The privacy policy explains what each provider does with the data.

  • Google AdSense serves the ads and sets advertising cookies, including IDE on the doubleclick.net domain, which is used to select and measure ads.
  • Google Analytics 4 sets _ga and _ga_… to count visits and tell repeat visits apart.
  • Microsoft Clarity sets _clck and _clsk, plus MUID, CLID and related identifiers on Microsoft domains. Clarity records session replays — mouse movement, clicks and scrolling — and builds heatmaps so we can find broken and confusing interfaces.

What we still do not do

  • No cookie of ours identifies you personally — there are no accounts to attach
  • Your uploaded files are never sent to any advertising or analytics provider
  • We do not sell your personal data

Controlling these cookies

Every browser can block or delete cookies, either for all sites or for this one, in its privacy settings; blocking the advertising and analytics cookies above leaves every tool on the site fully usable, while blocking mf_sid will stop uploads from working. You can also manage what Google shows you in My Ad Center. Questions: privacy@compresskits.com.

September 9, 2026: this page previously said the site used only two first-party cookies and no advertising cookies. That was inaccurate — the providers above were already running. The list now matches what the site actually sets.
