A receipt has one job: to state, unambiguously, that payment was received — who paid, who was paid, for what, how, and when. This tool produces exactly that as a clean PDF: your business details, the customer, itemised lines, the payment method, and a total stamped PAID. There is no account to create and no watermark to buy off; the document you download is the finished article.

Everything runs in your browser. The customer’s name, what they bought and what they paid never touch a server — the PDF is generated on your device, drafts autosave into your own browser storage, and a JSON export gives you a portable copy for your bookkeeping folder. For a shop counter or a market stall, that also means the tool keeps working on a flaky connection: once the page is open, generating receipts needs no network at all.

Receipt or invoice — which one does this transaction need?

The two documents bracket a payment: the invoice comes before (a request, with a due date and payment instructions), the receipt comes after (a record, with the payment method and a PAID mark). Handing a customer an invoice when they have already paid understates your own records; handing a receipt before payment gives away your proof. The distinction matters for expense claims and warranty returns too — most processes on the paying side specifically require the receipt.

Numbers that add up, sequences that hold

Amounts are calculated in integer cents — quantity times unit price per line, an optional discount off the subtotal, tax applied to the discounted base, each step rounded to the cent. The arithmetic is covered by an automated test with a hand-checked worked example, so the total on the PDF is the total a calculator gives.

Receipt numbers keep themselves in order: "Suggest next" bumps RCP-014 to RCP-015 with the padding intact, and the downloaded file is named receipt-RCP-015-20260818.pdf so a folder of receipts sorts chronologically by itself. Three templates — Classic, Modern, Minimal — restyle the page without ever changing a number.

What a complete receipt should show

At minimum: your business name and contact details, the date, a unique receipt number, what was sold with quantities and prices, any tax collected with its rate, the total, and the payment method. Add the customer’s name whenever the receipt might back a warranty claim, an expense report or a return — an anonymous receipt is weak evidence.
