Half a megabyte goes a long way

500 KB comfortably holds a photo 1600–2000 pixels wide at high JPG quality — larger than most laptop screens display. At this size the compression is effectively invisible for typical photos: what you give up is redundancy the eye never sees, mostly camera metadata, needless colour-profile baggage and encoder inefficiency.

Why exact-size beats “save for web” guessing
