Who runs CompressKits

I’m Monu Sagar. I designed CompressKits, wrote the processing pipelines the tools run on, operate the servers they run on, and write the guides in the Learning Center — the same name that sits on every article byline and in the footer of every page.

That also means there is nobody here to escalate to. If a tool hands back a bad file or a guide gets something wrong, it is my mistake to fix, and support@compresskits.com reaches me rather than a ticket queue.

Why it exists

CompressKits started with a familiar Tuesday-night problem: a 500 MB screen recording, an email attachment limit, and forty browser tabs of sketchy “free” converters — each hiding the download button behind three ads and a watermark.

The technology to do this properly is well understood; it just hadn’t been packaged with any respect for the person on the other side of the screen. So I set the rules first and built around them:

• The free tier is the product. Not a demo, not bait. Watermarking someone’s memories is vandalism.
• Files are radioactive. They are held as briefly as possible, encrypted while they are held, and deleted on a timer nobody can pause.
• Speed is a feature. Your time matters more than my server bill.
• The tool tells the truth. Honest progress bars, honest ETAs, honest quality estimates — and no invented numbers anywhere on this site, including this page.

How the tools actually work

None of this is a browser toy wrapped around a stock library. What happens when you drop a file on a tool page:

• The file uploads over TLS in resumable chunks — a dropped mobile connection picks up where it left off instead of starting the upload over — into encrypted object storage.
• The job is queued to a worker that runs the real engines: FFmpeg for video and audio, sharp (libvips) for images, Ghostscript for PDFs. Settings are derived from what your file actually is — codec, resolution, frame rate, how compressible its contents already are — not from one global preset applied to everything.
• Results are measured, not predicted. The video compressor inspects the finished file and refuses to hand back something larger than what you gave it. Ask for an exact target size and it re-encodes and re-measures until the real output fits, rather than trusting a bitrate formula — and when a target genuinely cannot be reached, it says so instead of quietly missing it.
• Your upload and your result are deleted automatically within 24 hours. No account is created at any point, so there is no profile left behind to delete.

How the guides are written

The Learning Center exists to answer the question that sent you to a tool in the first place — what bitrate actually does, why a 4K video still looks soft at 1080p, which limit you are hitting on which platform. Three things govern what gets published there:

• Every guide is published under my name. If it is wrong, that is on me; corrections sent to support@compresskits.com get fixed in the article itself.
• Drafting is AI-assisted; publishing is gated. Drafts are written against a fixed house style with AI assistance, then scored against a quality bar by a separate, independent model before anything ships. A draft that misses the bar is not published — the pipeline is allowed to publish nothing on a given day, and regularly does.
• Numbers come from the product and the platforms, not from other blogs. Settings quoted in a guide are the ones the tools really run, and when a platform moves the goalposts — Discord cutting its free attachment limit to 20 MB, for instance — the affected guides are rewritten rather than left to rot.

What this site will never do

• Watermark your output, or degrade it to sell you an upgrade.
• Make you create an account to download a file you just made.
• Sell or share your files, or train models on them.
• Ship a button that looks like it works and doesn’t.

10 tools are live today — compressors, converters and editors for video, images, PDFs, audio and archives. The platform underneath is built to host many more, all with the same promise: fast, private, no dark patterns.
